Doris Ponitz continues to advocate for a long line of community causes. Doris Ponitz has carried the banner and supported many causes and community programs ranging from the arts and diversity initiatives to causes of peace at home and abroad. Her work to bring attention to Dayton and having it recognized as the City of Peace was achieved from her five trips to Croatia and Bosnia, engaging members of our community and serving as the Chair of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize Committee. Her love of the arts saw her in a leadership role as the Board Chair of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Association; the Board Chair of Culture Works; to being an active board member of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. Her awards are many and include being honored by the University of Dayton with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by the President’s Club of Dayton, with its Citizens Legion of Honor Award; recognized by the Dayton Daily News with its top Ten Women Award; awarded by the YWCA as a Woman of Influence; presented with the Friendship Award by the National Council of Community and Justice; and acknowledged by the Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails by inclusion in its Hall of Fame.
