Jerry Gillotti was one of Dayton’s sons having attended Chaminade High School and graduating from the University of Dayton in 1962 as a business major. After graduating from UD, Jerry hosted a radio show and was a fixture at U.D. Basketball, the Dayton Gems Hockey and many other public events. Always a people person, Jerry decided to buy the Wedgewood Inn on Patterson in 1970 where he began to book jazz performers from the region. Gillotti had an ear for great talent and often gave a chance to up and coming artists. Many of these artists are now sensational national recording artists who still return from time to time to perform at Gilly’s. Throughout the years, other great names such as Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and George Benson, also were regulars on the bill at Gilly’s Jazz Club in Dayton, Ohio.
